"This wrinkle in time, I can't give it no credit I thought about my space and I really got me down (got me down) Got me so down, I got me a headache My heart is crammed in my cranium and it still knows how to pound
Well, I found you Maybe you can help me And I can help you"

JEZEBEL: Tell us about yourself...
SEXXXXY PENGUIN: Heh, about me, eh? Where should I start... Hehe... Well, I am 23, I bar tend at the Olive Garden, I have 2 cats, I like to read a lot, I like to write a lot, I am in a band (as the lead guitar player), and, well, I guess that's really about it.
J: What brought you to USM?
SP: Wow . . . That was almost a year ago . . . Well, I live in Omaha, NE and there is this fun little creative 'movement' (for lack of a better term) going on here. There even was an article written in a Minneapolis newspaper that Seattle just go ahead and hand down it’s flannel to us right now, hehe-- and I decided that I would kinda try to contribute to it with an independent zine for local arts. Well, some ways to start it were by contacting anyone and everyone I knew, and sure enough, next thing I know I get an email from someone telling me they heard about it from USM (where, after seeing the post about it, I noticed Anabel boasting along that I was flirting with her. Some ego's of those poets, I tell ya).
J: What's up with your alias?
SP: Well, my alias is mostly to do with my religion (plus I like the word sexxxxy). My personal religion is Penguinism. Never heard? Well, allow me to continue . . . Scriptures tell us that we are created in God’s image. Well, I don’t believe that. What I believe is that the epiphany of being God is when we tap into other 70 percent of our mind that we never have before. I believe that this happens when have confessed our lack of fulfillment of potential and that we truly do need to tap into that self-humbleness. That is why prayers work for spiritual healing, because we resource to that mindset that we need that help, and thus create it with our own mind.
I also feel that the failure of mankind rests with us when we cannot do that. If you think back to times that you were most unhappy, it will generally be because we failed ourselves in our mind, thus leaving our potential unfulfilled. See, the penguin is a bird that has wings, and cannot fly, much like humans have such strong spiritual powers and potential for ’godlike’ actions yet . . . We would rather get through the waters of life by using our wings to swim in it, rather that fly above it.
J: Favorite aspects of USM?
SP: Poetry. Oh, and coffee shop interviews.
I like the idea of only having certain things to read on my homepage, and certain things get skipped over as well. I also like the fact that my kittens are safe when I am on USM, the more people on USM, the less kittens die. Although, it does irritate me when they shut off the new user button . . . My mother has been trying to log on for sometime now, and every time I tell her the button is working, sigh, they shut it off the next day.
*sigh*
Oh, by the way mom, if you are listening, "hi mom." (I've always wanted to do that)
J: What motivates and inspires you artistically?
SP: OOOHHHHH, this is the part of the interview that I am supposed to say something awe inspiring and creative, or something out of the ordinary or whatever. Or some great cause for starvation, fighting A.I.D.S., homelessness, the planet, or what have you . . . Well, sorry for the disappointment. Alcohol and relationships. Pretty simple.
J: What do you do when you're not at USM?
SP: Read, write, play my guitar (I am in a band called the pink team), drink rolling rocks and jack and cokes, hang out with my cats, work as a bartender, look for the person on the grassy knoll (though, I have narrowed it down to BCAR and a few other people), hang out with my crew over there (points to Luv Bug, WFP, Danielle, Daijha, Camaro Chic, Rika, Fallen Angel, Moon Angel, and Lady LaDonna. As they all recite "yeah, sexxxxy, you da man").
J: What would you do to improve the site?
SP: Well, I would definitely add a sports section, and probably open up a coffee shop for various poetry/music discussions . . . And, well, I would like to see a link where the more mature people of USM can go to. I mean, if it’s supposed to be a mirror of life, let the adults play a little bit, too (as opposed to grasping for enjoyment with various posts asking about dress, TRL, and soda).
J: Any role models or people you look up to?
SP: People I look up to… wow. Well, there is Malcolm X, anyone that can transcend their life so drastically in such a microscopic media eye will always share my deepest affection, not to mention the fact that he went through emotions and trials in his life (yes, many were self imposed) that we have ALL been through in our life. Other idols include George Carlin (though, any more he does seem as a such a bitter old man), my kittens (I mean, really, to sleep all day, pay no rent, and still act you own the place?! ), Chuck Palau (the Kurt Vonnegut of our generation), and alas . . . . Frank Black. He is a genius.
J: Closest you've come to being arrested?
SP: Oh goodness . . . This story . . . Oohhhh, my blood gets boiling every time I tell the story. Okay, here is the deal: I am the designated driver, right? So, my (now ex) fiancé and I are coming home from the bar, and decide to park the vehicle to . . . .to talk about some things (heh). Well, sure enough, a cop follows us, waits for us to be parked for about 20 minutes and THEN comes up to the car (both of us were fully clothed, though). Well, sure enough, he gives me about 15 sobriety tests, I fail ONE of them, and he gives me the breathalyzer. I pass, and he INSISTS on searching the vehicle. 2 hours later (at 4 am) he decides that we shouldn’t be driving around and need to get home. The closest to being arrested part comes into play with me mouthing off the whole time. Heh.
J: Favorite song or lyrics?
SP: You are asking the wrong person. LOL, man, it really depends on the mood, I can be quite the music snob. Most of it is from the early nineties. Headache by Frank Black would probably be my favorite "get your bottom up, and quit feeling sorry for yourself" song, and I find myself listening to that after hearing "Pale Blue Eyes" by the Velvet Underground.
As far as modern music goes, I am right now listening to a lot of Bright Eyes and Cursive. Very good music, and it’s from Omaha (cheap plug -- Bright Eyes was actually able to debut in the Billboard top 200, which is amazing considering there’s no video yet, and, while it got press in the rolling stone, never got any sort of marketing backing at all).
J: Finally, what would you do if you were a ghost?
SP: Free beer. Girls. Free concerts. Nuff said.
